Shirley's dad, a security guard at Haydon Electronics, is an irascible social-climbing Yorkshireman who has no time for "that bloody yeti," as he brands Wolfie. Working for West Country-based Radio West, Shoestring uses his airtime as a springboard for detective work, asking listeners to ring in with investigations he can pursue and information he can use.
